Sapphire Valkea is the daughter of Adam Thunder and Ruby Valkea. Ruby was a Flesh-Tearer/Blood Maiden - a spiritual being from another realm on Earth. Flesh-Tearers are all female, so to continue their species they must interbreed with others such as humans. If they do and a girl is born, she will be 'pure' blood maiden but if a boy is born, he will be a hybrid.
Ruby, unbeknowingly, was pregnant with Sapphire at the time she found out about her husband's affair. She confronted him about his infidelity, only to have him mock her and tell her it was over between them anyway. Not wanting to stay in the house any more with a untrustworthy man, she packed her bags and left. Although it pained her to leave Joseph, her son who she loved dearly, behind with her betraying husband, Ruby felt she had no choice. Before shedding herself of her 'dirty and tainted' skin and returning back to her realm, she located and brutally murdered the woman he had had an affair with, getting her own personal revenge.
Some time later, she gave birth to Sapphire. As Sapphire was a girl, she was pure Blood Maiden. She was then tutored in the standard ways of psychic abilities, magic powers and 'superhuman' abilities. She soon recieved her wand and special markings on her arms to signify the 'gift' she had recieved. Her gift was control over spirits, allowing her to call them - no matter their species - to aid her should she need help. She was also given vampiric traits, giving her enhanced speed, strength, improved senses, heightened endurance and resistance, hypnosis, shadow manipulation and flight as well as the usual blood sucking ability. However, unlike vampires Sapphire does not need to rely on drinking blood to survive as she can eat like normal. Furthermore, she does not have the weaknesses of a vampire.
Some time later, she was introduced to her older brother, Joseph, who was a human/blood maiden hybrid. The two got to know each other before Sapphire revealed to him about them moving in together in Joseph's world, away from his dad. Furthermore, she helped him to complete his first 'Flesh-Tearing'. Sure enough, Joseph and Sapphire moved in together in a small house near Miami, with Joseph feeling a wanting of using his powers to help others. Sapphire supported the idea and helped him visualize a costume idea, with Joseph calling himself 'The Reaper'.
Sapphire has taught him some other new abilites, such as using the shadows and darkness to teleport and confuse his enemies, as well as aiding him for some of his nights as a vigilante.
Not long back, however, the pair have also been in Japan to join Earth United's Elite Force, helping to stop the evil Majestic Institutes around the world...
