Irene Knight...

Irene Knight was a teenage girl from Chicago. Born deaf, she straight away had to adjust to a life without been able to hear - in a world where hearing is an almost essential asset. At home, it wasn't much of an issue; using TV subtitles, email, a text-phone and learning how to lip-read and use sign language, she and her family were able to cope fine. For Irene, she spent most of her time at home chatting to her friends on Facebook and watching horror movies.
At school, however, it wasn't so simple - nor was it long before the bullying started, with people taking advantage of her inability to hear and treating her like she was stupid because of it. For Irene, it led to a lot of anger and depression over why she was targeted for something she couldn't do anything about.
As the years went on into High school, things really kicked off as one group of bullies simply couldn't let go of the fact that Irene couldn't hear anything.


During one of her journeys home, she was ambushed by the group - who proceeded to pin her down and physically assault her. However, the group's attack was interrupted by the police - with the gang fleeing before any of them could be arrested. Irene had suffered several major injuries - including losing her vision as a result of the attack and struggling to speak.
Unable to communicate with the police, Irene couldn't point out who her attackers were and sunk deeper into depression.
As time went on, Irene's injuries healed slowly with her vision and speech beginning to return at a slow rate. Some time later, however, she was approached by a group of people from a private health company called QuikRecuva.
QuikRecuva was a respected multinational health organization, which had made the news numerous times with stories of 'miracle' recoveries using conventional and unconventional methods. The people from the organization offered Irene a chance to not only heal fully from the vicious attack, but also regain her hearing. Taking the chance at having a more 'normal' life, Irene agreed.


It wasn't long before Irene was undergoing four separate procedures - the first to restore the injuries to her head and body, the second to restore her vision, the third to restore her speech and the fourth to restore her hearing.
The first three were all performed perfectly with no issues, bringing Irene back to some level of normalcy. For the fourth - listed as "Operation Coraniad" - it involved implanting a set of 'techno-organic' implants that pick up on sound and convert it into the correct information for her brain to understand what it was. However, there was a more sinister plan at work, for QuikRecuva was a dummy company been used by the pseudo-mystic paramilitary organization Majestic. The implants would not only restore her hearing, but serve as a test to see if she could use them to manipulate sound as a whole. After another successful operation, Irene began to get used to her 'new' ability - finding out by experimentation how acute it could be.
Through this, however, she soon picked up on something she didn't want to hear - listening to the people who had been talking to her, now talking about what they were planning to do to her; learning about the power she no possessed.


Angered, she began to use this new knowledge to develop her powers. As such, when the staff told her about her performing some tests and making an 'adjustment' to her Coraniad implants, the response they got wasn't a pleasant one. First confronting them over what she knew, the staff's demeanor changed - trying to convince her that she was picking up on something else and approaching Irene with a hidden tranquilizer. Sensing this, Irene went on the offensive - blasting the staff back with a sonic wave. Fighting her way out as several Majestic troopers attacked her, Irene overcame her attackers and escaped.
Some time after these events, Majestic came knocking at Irene's door - determined to try and bring her back. However, Irene found an unlikely ally when a woman called Jasmine stepped in on her behalf. Realizing who Jasmine was and the potential for damage she could inflict, Majestic backed down.
Learning who Jasmine was, Irene and her became good friends - with Jasmine offering Irene some help on using her new power for various purposes, including for Irene's future dream job as a nurse. As well as been able to use her implants to manipulate sound, Irene also found they could be used to manipulate silence. She was also able to get her own back on her attackers from school after identifying each of them to the Police, with all the group getting arrested.


As the time has gone by, Irene has settled into her job as a nurse - using her supreme hearing ability to its maximum benefit. When not working, she often uses her powers for having fun in any way she can. At the same time, while she enjoys the hearing world, she's not afraid to deactivate the devices from time to time to be a part of the deaf community she grew up with.
Recently, she has been given a Chakra Crystal to look after by Jasmine - which has served both as an amplifier for her abilities as well as giving her control over electricity. She is now learning how to use this power as well.
